Shake, rattle, and roll!

Oh boy!  Here we go again!  Oklahoma is topping the list of insurance nightmares with tornadoes, flooding rains, hail, and earthquakes all in the same day.  I kinda wish we were still in Kansas.

With all that in mind, here are some important safety tips:

Tornadoes are coming!  Seek shelter in the interior of your home.
Earthquakes are coming!  Stay away from the interior of your home.  Go outside if possible.
Lightning is coming!  Avoid high ground.
Flooding rains are coming!  Avoid low ground.
Some parts of the state have had 5" of rain, but we are under a burn ban.

You gotta love Oklahoma!

We always get storms here, so that part is nothing new.  The following is an interesting story to check out that might help alleviate some fears about the other crazy stuff going on around here.

An update to earthquake insurance:  All companies offering the coverage have a moratorium on adding the coverage to any policy.  This means we cannot add the coverage to your policy for a certain period of time.  It's sort of like trying to insure a house while it's on fire, or going to purchase health insurance after you've broken your leg.  However, as soon as the earthquakes stop, the companies will allow the coverage to be added.  Prices range from $44 to $258 per year, and deductibles can be high.  The lowest is 2% of your dwelling coverage, meaning if your home is covered for $150,000, your out of pocket expense is $3000.  Some companies require a 10% deductible, meaning you'd have to pay $15,000 for the same house.

We are currently researching a company that will provide the coverage to any current homeowners policy.  As soon as the moratorium lifts we will check out the prices and deductibles.  If you are interested in the coverage, just give us a call or send an email and we will add your name to the list.

Have a great day!
